MENA - Anglers who frequent Lake Wilhelmina in Polk County have seen a little less of the lake than usual this year. The lake has been 5 feet low throughout spring and summer, waiting for upgrades to water-control structures.
DUMAS – Recent electrofishing surveys for northern snakeheads, which have been found downstream of Wilbur D. Mills Dam in Desha County, have not been able to locate any of the invasive species in the river or backwaters upstream of that dam.
FLIPPIN - Wildcat Shoals Access on the White River below Bull Shoals Dam will be closed for maintenance starting Monday, June 18.
LITTLE ROCK - Anglers looking for a relaxing trip to their local Family and Community Fishing Program location may just find the catch of a lifetime waiting for them, thanks to a generous donation from a landowner in southeast Arkansas.
JONESBORO – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program has added more access to fishing for northeast Arkansas residents. ASU Pond, south of Centennial Bank Stadium on the campus of Arkansas State University, will be stocked monthly a minimum of eight times a year as part of the program, according to FCFP director Maurice Jackson.
HOT SPRINGS – Roughly four out of 10 bass in Arkansas will die this year, but there’s no need to panic, that mortality rate is pretty common, and some mortality through harvest is actually encouraged to ensure a healthy fishery. This is only one of many interesting finds you’ll get perusing the latest version of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Reservoir Black Bass Management Plan, released earlier this year.
CAMDEN – As crappie across the state are hitting their stride, many anglers are relying on the old faithful offering of a fathead minnow or “shiner” dangling from a size 2 Aberdeen hook. There’s no doubt that there’s nothing like the allure of a real meal to fish, but many anglers do just as well using soft-plastic imitations.
